PRELIMINARY STUDY

Phase PS.5 Follow-up and upgrade of the preliminary study

PS.5.1 Purposes

(-)  Set up all needed measures so that:

the Preliminary Study will be correctly applied in the future.

the Preliminary Study will be updated in the future

(-)  Do the promotion of the Preliminary Study and get the users motivation.

PS.5.2 Realization actions

(-)  Bring the Preliminary Study up to date

the Preliminary Study may need being updated following the results of the next more detailed studies

the Preliminary Study may need being updated to face new circumstances, to conform to changes in the company strategy, in the regulation, etc.

PS.5.3 Project management actions

(-)  Promote the Preliminary Study and get the motivation of the future users .

(-)  Promote also the next changes in the Preliminary Study.

PS.5.4 Quality assurance actions

(-)  Follow-up:

Define the criteria and measuring indicators to control how effectively the Preliminary Study will be set up.

Define how the controls will be done.

(-)  Upgrade:

Preliminary Study upgrade procedure

Who is responsible ? When needs it being done ?

(-)  The particular problem with the preliminary study maintenance is that most of evolutions will be first processed downstream, at the levels of the detailed study or realization:

the possible mistakes and lacks of the preliminary study will be detected and corrected during these phases.

the requirements evolution is processed directly at these levels, mainly for emergency reasons.

(-)  There are thus major risks:

from one side, that the final result progressively moves away from the fixed guide lines, as well by its contents as by its development methodology. You could come to a degradation of the application quality and coherence, because the consequences of one change on all the faces of the application would not be envisaged.

from the other side, that the preliminary analysis become obsolete, stopping so the people who will use and maintain the application in the future from having a global understanding of it.

(-)  The quality procedures concerning the preliminary study upgrade should thus make for sure:

(-) that the changes brought at the detailed study and realization levels take the guide lines of the preliminary study into account.

(-)  that there is a feedback for any change brought downstream when it has an impact on the preliminary study

(-)  a periodical revision of the preliminary study
